That is the best weblog for anyone who needs to search out out about this topic. You notice so much its nearly laborious to argue with you (not that I actually would need…HaHa). You definitely put a brand new spin on a topic thats been written about for years. Great stuff, just great!

Susanne,

Thanks for commenting. I know Kirk is intending to continue posting as he continues with the Vegan diet. So, keep your eye out for his next post.

In the meantime I can address the honey vs. pollinated foods issue. Vegans who choose not to eat honey do so because of the fact that honey is produced by farmed bees. While it is hard to imagine that the bees suffer as much as other animals in the industrial food production process they are still used and sometimes harmed while the honey is harvested (honey they produced for their own use not ours).

Foods pollinated by bees and other insects is an interesting issue. I think that this may not be considered as harmful because the pollinating animals are often wild and pollination is incidental to their actions (pollination is a side effect of the animals feeding on the plants).

However, in modern agriculture pollination may be achieved using farmed bees. Bees are raised and then the hives are rented to farmers to place in their fields to ensure pollination occurs. This can mean that the hives are shipped long distances (resulting in possible harm to the bees). Many people are either unaware of this practice or understand that as a result of pollution (often from agricultural insecticides) wild pollination is not always reliable. It would be impossible to distinguish plants pollinated by farmed vs. wild insects. And, it would not be possible to healthily eliminate all pollinated foods from your diet.

I will leave the rest of your comments for Kirk to answer.

Thanks for visiting the blog!

I've really enjoyed this series and hope it will continue with more insights into how our choice of diet impacts on the "food industry". I was going to say agriculture but it really does not seem the right term?

Sharing the posts with friends both online and offline our discussions have brought up an amazing list of items that are made from cows and insights into how very intense this discussion can become. It is not about food and health but principles at times.

I was suprised to find honey on the list of non vegan foods. Then I wondered about plants that rely on pollination - but there is a difference between the two processes.

Can we ( the readers of the blog ;) ) challenge you to attempt a "local" vegan diet? The question would be what exactly is local?

Steve yes, I just nicetod those also. But it is somewhat of a shame that they are using our money to attempt to persuade us of things they do not actually believe. There must be a word or two for that.

What a lveoly blog you have and the most beautiful photos to compliment it. Unfortunately I am in a oatmeal rut which I cannot get out of! I can't seem to find anything as filling as it, although I have been looking into english muffins and this is very inspiring!
